It’s a very special time of the year, the holiday season. It’s about being together with the people we care most about, and reminding ourselves to cherish the little things in life.

But amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, we often forget about the most important person in your life – you! Take a few moments to allow your mind to separate from your surroundings and focus on your breath. Open your heart, and be ready to receive the gift of Metta – a Buddhist term loosely translating to “loving-kindness”- a deep sense of caring for one self and for all of living beings. Welcome phrases that emerge from your heart, which may express what you wish for most deeply for yourself – not only for today, but in an enduring way.

I am going to use the phrase “May I live in happiness, and may I live with ease”, as a classic example. Gently repeat this over and over, letting your mind rest in the phrases. If you find that your mind begins to wander, gently let it go and begin again.

“May I live in happiness, and may I live with ease”… Feel the energy of this aspiration extending indefinitely in front of you, to either side, behind you, above and below. To the checkout person at the supermarket from yesterday, to someone who may be going through a difficult time right now, to the person who you feel very close to. Visualize them and get a feeling for each of their presence. “May all live in happiness, and may all live with ease”…

When we connect to these phrases, aiming the heart in this way, we are opening ourselves to the possibility of connecting, rather than overlooking and of caring, rather than being indifferent. Ultimately, we open in this way to all sentient beings everywhere – without distinction and without separation. All people, all animals, all creatures, all those in existence, near and far, known to us and unknown to us. All beings on earth, in the air, in the water. All being born, and all dying.

Such a profound gift to have shared – radiating inwards and outwards – from your center to all’s center.

  • At Healthletica, we use infrared radiant heating in our hot studio, creating a more comfortable and natural heat that has many benefits for your health and well-being. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Our radiant heating panels emit infrared rays, which are similar to the sun's rays. These rays penetrate your body and the floor, rather than heating the air around you. โ˜€๏ธ

Here are some of the benefits of infrared hot yoga:

โœ… Increased flexibility: Infrared heat can help you loosen up your muscles and joints, allowing you to move more freely and easily. It can also increase the production of collagen.

โœ… Pain relief: Infrared heat can reduce inflammation, swelling, and soreness in your body by increasing blood flow and oxygen delivery to the affected areas. It can also stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers that make you feel good.

โœ… Detoxifying sweat: Infrared heat can help you sweat more than regular heat, which can help you flush out toxins, impurities, and excess water from your body. Sweating can also improve your skin health, and boost your immune system by fighting off infections.

โœ… Weight loss: Infrared heat can help you burn more calories by increasing your metabolic rate and heart rate. It can also stimulate the breakdown of fat cells and the release of fatty acids into the bloodstream, which can be used as fuel by your muscles.

โœ… Increased circulation: Infrared heat can improve your blood circulation by dilating your blood vessels and lowering your blood pressure. This can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your organs, tissues, and cells, as well as the removal of waste products and carbon dioxide. Improved circulation can also benefit your brain function, mood, energy levels, and overall health.

  • Trail mixes make for a great snack when youโ€™re on the go. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธTheyโ€™re easy to carry around in a zip-lock bag or small container and the right mix will do a solid job of satisfying a hungry belly in-between meals.

BUT beware โš ๏ธ โ€ฆ many trail mixes on the grocery store shelves contain nuts that have been roasted at high temperatures, low-quality oils, and/or high amounts of sugar from dried fruit.

Since itโ€™s not easy to find a squeaky clean trail mix, I like to make my own. Theyโ€™re real easy to put together and you have full control over what goes in them. You can get super creative or keep it simple โ€“ youโ€™re the boss of your trail mix! ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿซ๐ŸŒฐ๐Ÿฅฅ
